Well, time to make a proper announcement...

Coming in 2013: the podcast and radio broadcast of one of my favorite things I've ever written, The I Job!

The job was supposed to go like clockwork. It went cuckoo.

This radio play -- featuring the monsters known as the I, from our Doctor Who novel "Seeing I" -- is being produced by David Morgan-Mar and the Comic Irregulars (the group behind various webcomics including "Darths & Droids"), in association with 2RRR Radio in Sydney.

It's basically a crime caper in space -- think Blake's 7 meets Ocean's 11 -- with that Whoish combination of excitement, scariness, cleverness and comedy. And it stars a bunch of talented Aussie actors you've probably never heard of, unless you've paid attention to this LJ (Craig Walker, Gemma Laurelle, Kyla Ward, and Alistair Rigg), plus my old mate and sometime co-author Rupert Booth.

The I Job was written just over ten years ago for Bill Baggs' "Audio Adventures In Time And Space" line, but was never produced... David Morgan-Mar had read the script, thought it was brilliant, and told me that we should do it ourselves. It took me about a decade, but I finally listened to him.

We're recording it in early January; it'll premiere some time around the middle of the year, as podcast episodes on http://www.theijob.net, and then be broadcast in three half-hour episodes on 2RRR (and possibly other stations around Australia). With radio drama facing the axe across Australia, this is an attempt to prove that there's still an audience for this sort of thing. ABC take note!
